Auf nach Süden

Nach zwei Nächten in Manila wollen wir nun unsere Reise in den Süden fortsetzen. Mit dem Bus geht es nun weiter in Richtung Batangas. Wir stellen direkt nach dem Einsteigen fest, dass die Mehrheit der Philippiner wohl um die 1.60m gross sein muss, denn mit 1.90m ist der zugewiesene Sitzplatz bis zur Rücklehne des Vordersitzes gut gefüllt.
Durch die Vororte der Hauptstadt, Reisfeder und die ersten Palmenwälder geht es mit sportlichem Tempo unserem ersten Zwischenstopp entgegen, wo wir auf die einheimischen Kleinbusse «Jeepneys» umsteigen. Das Fahrticket ist sehr günstig (60 Rappen für 2) und der Bus sofort voll mit Menschen. Von hinten packt mich eine Hand, die mir zu verstehen gibt, dass ich wohl einen Platz zu viel besetze und aufschliessen soll. Die Einheimischen haben ihren Spass an den komischen Touristen, die mit dem Kopf regelmässig das niedrige Dach touchieren.

Bis zum Hotel ist es nicht mehr weit und daher beschliessen wir mit dem «Trycicle» den Rest der Strecke zu absolvieren. Ein Gepäckstück mehr hätte nicht reingepasst!

Unser Hotel wirkt einladend und sehr ruhig. Sofort gönnen wir uns eine Abkühlung im grossen Pool und geniessen die Aussicht auf das Meer. Kurz nach dem Abendessen löst sich die Ruhe jedoch auf. Philippinische Gäste erfreuen sich ab den etwas schiefen klängen aus einer Karaokemaschine. Wir nicht. Es wird gelacht und laut mitgesungen. Leider ist die ganze Maschinerie etwas nah an unserem Zimmer und dauert bis in die späten Abendstunden hinein.

Am nächsten Tag an der Rezeption informieren wir uns über Ausflüge und Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe. Die hilfsbereite Dame organisiert uns prompt einen Transport zum einzigen Strand in der Region. Dort angekommen finden wir eine gemütliche Atmosphäre inmitten von Palmen und türkisblauem Wasser vor. Ein erster Kontakt mit der Unterwasserwelt lässt nicht lange auf sich warten und wir bestaunen Kugelfische, Seesterne und ein intaktes Korallenriff beim Schnorcheln.

Auf der Rückfahrt noch ein kurzer Stopp beim Früchtestand, damit wir für die geplante Weiterreise am Tag danach vorbereitet sind.

Den Abend lassen wir gemütlich in der Hotelbar ausklingen und besprechen die geplante Reiseroute.
